The Orangutan (Pongo spp.) is an intelligent and arboreal primate native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. These great apes prefer dense, tropical forests where they spend most of their lives in the treetops, using their long arms and strong hands to swing between branches. Orangutans have a varied diet that includes fruit, leaves, bark, insects, and occasionally bird eggs. They are particularly fond of fruit, with figs and durians being among their favorites. Known for their solitary nature, orangutans are vital for forest ecology as they help in seed dispersal, ensuring the health and regeneration of their lush habitat.
